A little quick hit on the tape released by Asher Roth a few weeks ago. Pabst and Jazz aims to combine the lyrics of Roth over smooth and toned down lounge jazz beats done superbly by the production team, Blended Babies. Asher does his best to fumble hamfisted through lines so loose that it often seems he will lose control of his lines. But for Roth it works, giving a distinct sound and adds to the character of the funny lines Roth spews. The beats are so good, though, that the listener oftens forgets about Roth focusing solely on the melodies until a quick one liner brings the audience back.

Another great aspect of the tape is the geust appearances including wonderful verses by Chip tha Rip and Pac Div. The tap end up being a really a fresh take on a subject that can get old in it’s narrow focus. Worth a spin definetly and a great change from some of the bigger releases of the last few months.
